At every city centre, urban development, town centre, suburb, conservation area or rural village there is a similar important concern:
How can people walk across a street, road or rural lane in comfort and in safety, where the appearance and feel of a place is enhanced?
The answer is at a well-designed courtesy crossing: an elegant place where drivers and cyclists willingly stop for pedestrians.
There are as many forms of courtesy crossing as there are places and so we consider the What, Where, Why and crucially How a courtesy crossing can be put in place.
