Traffic is essential for the movement of people and goods. Road traffic has increased as a proportion to the rise (and fall during the pandemic) in GDP.
Traffic is also becoming more complex. Cars, buses, taxis, lorries, cycles, motor cycles, people on foot, those with disabilities and children are all mixed together. Each has its own needs and expectations. None of them can be wished away. We can’t escape the need for traffic but we can manage it.
There are many splendid examples of placemaking that also manage traffic in our projects section. Here we hope to de-mystify the facts and current trends about designing for traffic.
