This Courtesy Crossing is close to the Harrow Boys’ School where there is a high volume of pedestrians. This requires a traffic calming to begin with as any traffic volume around schoolchildren crossing the road will be hazardous. This is especially true as the road and pavements are narrow which may result in children walking by them on the road when their capacity is reached.
This particular courtesy crossing is capitalising on the pre-existing traffic calming where the road narrowing creates a shorter distance to cros for the pedestrain. It also gove the driver ore of a preference to stop for the pedestrians because there is a likelihood that the traffic will be holding for the traffic coming from the prioritised direction.
